The Fifth Grade Curriculum
The following is an overview of the state curriculum standards for fifth grade.
Mathematics
Science
The science curriculum is divided into three instructional modules: Earth and Sun, Mixtures and Solutions, and Living Systems. Each module has a driving question. Earth and Sun Module: How do earth's geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere interact to create a sustainable environment for all life? Mixtures and Solutions Module: What is matter and what happens when samples of matter interact? Living Systems Module: How can we describe Earth's biosphere as a system of interacting parts? |
History/Social Science
The social studies curriculum focuses on the making of our nation. From pre-Columbian Native Americans, to the European Age of Exploration, to the American Revolution, students learn about the people, places, and events in the making of the United States of America. Students are asked to view history from the multiple perspectives of those involved. The universal themes of change, relationships, and power are highlighted to enrich student learning. Students gain geographic knowledge of the world and the nation. |
