ABOUT FIFTH GRADE
The language arts (reading, writing, listening, speaking) are integrated in the content areas. Reading selections and writing activities are related to the topics students are studying in science, social studies/history, math, and health.
Social Justice Theme/Social Action Project
The 5th grade social justice theme is Democracy: A Personal Responsibility. Students learn about their rights and responsibilities as citizens in a democracy and members of their school and community. Personal responsibility is stressed as students prepare to move on to middle school and higher education. They learn about the American Creed which extols the imporatance of protecting not only your own rights, but also the rights of others. Students learn what it means to be an agent of change and they participate in a grade level social action project.

Fifth grade teachers team teach. This allows each teacher to focus on specific subject areas. It also ensures that fifth grade students receive a comprehensive, balanced curriculum. Students rotate between classes throughout the day(as they will in middle school). And while each teacher has her own style of teaching, we work and plan together to develop a cohesive instructional program.
